NGLC was established in 1848 – yes, 171 years ago! Through the grace of God we have a long and colourful history. In fact, our congregation was the first organisation that came into  existence in the region outside Durban when a group of German people settled in the area in and around Westville, Pinetown and New Germany to grow cotton and later vegetables.

This year we are celebrating another special event in our history. 50 Years ago, on 16 February 1969 the cornerstone of the building that currently serves as our home was laid.

The NGLC belongs to the stable of congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa (N-T). We support and actively participate in the projects of the Church. Our Bishop is Horst Müller.

The NGLC is closely affiliated with our neighbours, the APN Retirement Village; and the New Germany Lutheran Pre-primary School, which share our premises.
The NGLC also participates in the informal network "Lutherans Building Bridges", and in the Pinetown Interdenominational Ministers’ Fellowship.

NGLC supports the inter-denominational Pinetown Christian Care, which is a project of the aforementioned ministers’ fellowship.
